The Play rules of Badminton
Here are some key rules for a badminton match:
1. Scoring: A standard badminton match is played to the best of three games. The first side or player to reach 21 points wins a game, and the side or player that wins two out of three games wins the match.
2. Serve: The match begins with a serve. The server must hit the shuttlecock below the waist level and aim to land it in the diagonally opposite service court. Only the serving side can score points.
3. Rally: Once the shuttle is served, players or teams take turns hitting it over the net. The rally continues until the shuttle touches the ground, goes out of bounds, or a fault is committed.
4. Scoring Points: Points are scored when the shuttlecock lands inside the opponent’s court. If it lands outside the boundary lines, the opponent earns a point.
5. Rotation of Serve: In singles, players serve diagonally. In doubles, both players on a team serve, and the receiving team decides which player will receive the serve.
6. Faults: Various actions result in faults, including hitting the shuttlecock outside the boundaries, hitting the net with the racket or body, a double hit, or failing to serve correctly.
7. Changing Ends: Players switch ends after each game and when one side reaches 11 points in the third game.
8. Let: If there is interference during the game, such as a shuttlecock getting stuck in the net, the referee may call a “let,” and the point is replayed.
9. Winning the Match: To win the match, a player or team must win the best of three games.
10. Sportsmanship: Players are expected to exhibit good sportsmanship, including fair play, respect for opponents, and adherence to the rules.
